Planning Your Career

Our Career Counselors administer career assessment tests to help you discover the jobs that suit you and your needs.  Counselors will evaluate and assist with career planning.  Our Career Counselors conduct workshops that cover a diverse range of topics, and oversee Job Clubs
that meet at our library branches.

Resumes & Cover Letters

Our Career Counselors are experts on reviewing cover letters to get you noticed and resumes that are more likely to pass you through to the interview stage.  They'll help find and explain samples of each through our many books and online resources; learn how to use resume templates.

You will learn to take advantage of the online Resume Builder from Optimal Resume, FREE to libary card holders, where you can create and save Cover Letters and Resumes.  Our Career Counselors will show you how to tailor each to impress recruiters for specific jobs. Job Interviewing Tips & Helps

Our Career Counselors will help you prepare for every type of interview, including telephone screenings, panel interviews, and behavior-based interviews.

Resources at our Career Center include guides to scoring high at the interview, sample interview questions, and questions you can ask to impress.

Try out mock interviews with career counselors, a great way to gain interviewing experience and to learn how to make a good impression— another FREE service!


Career and Job Market Information

 

Job seekers may need to start thinking about other careers or industries where they can use their skills, or about learning new job skills.

Putting the people of Cuyahoga County back to work is one of six priorities of the Library.  Our Career Center maintains a comprehensive career library specializing in specific careers, and our librarians and Career Counselors will help you find what you need.   While the Career Center does focus our Library's resources and staff on-site, all of our branches are dedicated to helping job hunters, free of charge, and can access these services and resources.

Our Career Counselors and librarians will give you information on job training for in-demand jobs of the future, including how to use our online resources.

Join a Job Club

Our Career Counselors run job clubs at select library branches.  These clubs are open to all people who are job-hunting or changing careers and offer many networking opportunities for members.  No registration required. Locations and meeting schedules:



Workshops

 

All workshops are FREE and many offer hands-on training but they do require registration since seating is limited.

 

Job Search Workshops

These FREE workshops cover a step-by-step process to help you land that ideal job and are offered at select branches.  Pick up a Career Workshops brochure at any of our branches or see our online Career Center Workshops: Branches.  The  Career Center programs can include Interviewing Workshop, Online Job Applications, Resumes Tips & Trends, Creating Cover Letters, and LinkedIn 101.  

 

To find and register online for any of our Career Information Workshops, use our Event Finder.  Click on Events+ClassesFrom the drop-down menu under Events+Classes in the bar at the top of any page on our website, choose Event Finder.  Then choose "Subject:Career Information" & "Audience:Adults"; you can also enter Dates and Branch Locations, if needed.

 

Computer/Internet Workshops

Our Library also offers Technology Training, from beginner to advanced classes on computer software programs and the Internet at select branches throughout our system.
